Spring in South West France can bring every kind of weather! I’ve been swimming in March, been so hot we’ve been watering the garden in April but also scraping ice from my windscreen on the school run. This year I think the expression April Showers has been more appropriate.
We were booked to play at very lovely wedding venue in the Charente. Bellevue is a former Cognac distillery but thanks to careful renovation, parts of the estate have been sympathetically converted and restored to provide the ideal venue for a wedding.
The wedding breakfast was held in their Marquee but the evening party was held in their converted Salle de Fete, on the opposite side of the courtyard. We set up a small amp and microphone in the marquee for background music and speeches and then set to work transforming the party room for the evening.
The first dance was If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys; such a beautiful song and we think this will stay in our set-list now. As this was our first wedding for 2016 we were keen to see how our new songs were received; Uptown Funk and I Gotta Feeling in particular… we needn’t have worried as they were fabulous!
Both families were from Leicester and as their local football team is getting very close to winning the Premier League there was a certain level of pride and excitement for their hometown… and they were just a lovely, lovely crowd.
We had a wonderful time and not one drop of rain fell… so all in all it was pretty good!
And the icing on the cake… a few days later they sent me this…
Hi we’ve just arrived in Luton. Had an amazing weekend, it was perfect …you were all amazing and my family and friends complimented you so much… you definitely made our night so special and the first dance song was perfect.
And this is why we love weddings!
